LIFE Debris2Resource: Green Recovery of Ukraine
We are pleased to announce that Waste Ukraine Analytics (WUA) has become part of a powerful international consortium within the LIFE Debris2Resource: Green Recovery Ukraine (LIFE D2R-GreenUA) project. This initiative, funded by the European Union, is aimed at solving a critical challenge for our country — effective and environmentally safe management of construction and demolition waste caused by military aggression.
Our Mission: From Demolition to Resources
In the context of the large-scale destruction of Ukrainian cities, simply transporting debris to landfills is unacceptable. The D2R project implements a “debris-to-resource” approach (Debris2Resource), turning construction waste into valuable raw materials for future reconstruction.
As a partner of the consortium, Waste Ukraine Analytics (WUA) is working on building a systemic foundation for sustainable recovery. The project focuses on the following strategic areas:
- Methodology Development (RDMM): Creating a reproducible methodology for the safe sorting and recycling of concrete, metal, wood, and other materials.
- Circular Business Model (CCBM): Developing economic mechanisms that encourage the reuse of materials and engage businesses in recovery processes.
- Environmental Safety: Special attention is paid to the safe handling of hazardous waste, particularly asbestos, in accordance with strict EU standards.
- Regenerative Hubs: Our pilot sites in Irpin and Borodyanka are becoming centers where circular economy theory is transformed into practical construction solutions.
- Scaling Experience: The LIFE D2R-GreenUA project is not only about working in the Kyiv region. Our task is to develop a model that can later be scaled across all of Ukraine, adapting national legislation to European standards and strengthening the capacity of municipalities.
We are convinced that through innovation, sustainability, and international partnership, we can not only rebuild cities but also create a new, competitive, and eco-friendly infrastructure for Ukraine.
